Women’s Six Nations: England showed their attacking prowess in a 46-10 win over Wales in the Women’s Six Nations.

In front of an 18,000-strong crowd at Bristol’s Ashton Gate, the Red Roses took control in the first half as they raced into a 19-3 lead, with short-range tries from Hannah Boaterman, Maud Muir and Joe Aldcroft – his 50th. Test appearances – some from Abbey Dow and Ellie Kildoon at the back. . . . . . . . . Coming from great speed and teamwork.

The bonus point then wrapped up with the clock red, Lark Atkin-Davies putting England 24-3 up with 40 minutes to play.

Two tries for Kildoon, and scores from Dow and Rosie Galligan put England further ahead in the second half, as Holly Aitchison added three conversions from the boot.

Wales hit back when Keira Bevan stepped up for a converted try from a quick tap penalty but that was the only chance for the visitors as England went top of the Six Nations table with five points.

The Red Roses go through the gears as Wales miss chances:

Wales showed their intent early against England and after two penalties eventually went for points, Leluku George slotted in from the right to put the visitors 3-0 up.

England’s counter-attack didn’t take long as Muir slotted home from close range for a 5-3 lead.

England were looking dangerous down the right and Aldcroft headed in just 15 minutes after taking the ball quickly to the lineout, Aitchison adding the extra as the Red Roses went 12-3 up.

After a controversial turnover of possession which saw Marley Packer play scrum-half Cian Jones, the Red Roses were at their best when Meg Jones broke downfield and sent a grubber kick to Jess Breach, Boaterman barreling home the converted try a few stages later.

Wales then had a number of chances but could not convert them into points and England secured their bonus point with a red on the clock, Atkin-Davies completing the Red Roses’ signature maul to put them 24-3 up at the break.

It was the perfect start to the second half as Six Nations leading try scorer Kildoon headed in a corner in the 43rd minute, with Dow diving at the other end just three minutes later.

“The game doesn’t always go your way in attack, so you have to be good on the other side of the ball.

“The starting point is mall defense and we are making good progress.

“To be a really good team and grow this team we have to find different ways to score and make sure we play the game in different ways.

“We’re trying to be very clear about our strategy. They created pressure in both halves and I think we made some [efforts] there as well. I still think we have a lot of growth left.”

“It was absolutely incredible, the crowd was unreal. All the girls loved it.

“There are a few things to fix, but we will fix them during the week and come out strong against Scotland.

“Our soft errors, our management errors. We talk about how we want to put the handbrake off, so those errors are going to come, but it’s how we respond to them.

“We have a lot of intent in what we’re trying to do.”
