As India’s top badminton players gear up for the Olympics, the spotlight will be on Gayatri Gopichand/Trisa Jolly, Priyanshu Rajawat and Malvika Bansod when the US Open 2024 badminton tournament kicks off in Texas on Tuesday. The matches will be streamed live.
Two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu and World Championship medalists Chirag Shetty/Satviksairaj Rankireddy, HS Prannoy and Lakshya Sen skipped the BWF Super 300 tournament.
Commonwealth Games bronze medalist Gayatri Gopichand and badminton ranked 24th Trisa Jolly, are seeded second in women’s doubles and will be looking for their first BWF title since winning the Odisha Open two-and-a-half years ago.
The Indian duo reached the last 4 of the Singapore Open earlier this month. En route to their first semi-final appearance at a BWF Super 750 tournament, Trisa and Gayatri pulled off huge wins over All England champions Baek Ha Na and Lee So Hee and Tokyo 2020 bronze medalists Kim So Young and Kang Hee Young.

Priyanshu Rajawat, a member of the historic 2022 Thomas Cup winning Indian team, will be seeking his maiden BWF title after winning the Orleans Masters in April last year. The world number 40 Indian will take on the eighth seed in men’s singles and Czech Jan Lauda in the first round.
In the absence of PV Sindhu, India’s Malvika Bansod and Tanya Hemant will lead the women’s singles. Malvika is ranked 49th in the world and Tanya is ranked 73rd.
