The Indian men’s badminton team will start Thomas Cup title defense against Thailand while the women’s team will start their campaign against Canada on the opening day of the Thomas and Uber Cup finals to be held in Chengdu, China from April 27.

New Delhi in India, April 15 : The schedule for the forthcoming Thomas Cup and Uber Cup badminton tournaments was unveiled by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) on Monday, with India begining their Thomas Cup title defense against Thailand. 27 April and will face Canada in the women’s competition on the same day.

Following to Olympics.com, both tournaments will be held in China from April 27 to May 5.

The Thomas Cup is the premier world badminton team championship for men, while the Uber Cup is the premier women’s team badminton title. Both these tournaments are held simultaneously biennially.

In 2022, India stunned the world by defeating the tournament’s most successful team, 14-time champions Indonesia, in the final of the Thomas Cup. India have been placed in Group C and will play England (April 29) and Indonesia (May 1).

The women’s team qualified for the Uber Cup after winning gold at the Badminton Asia Team Championship earlier this year. Now, they are placed in Group A and will begin their campaign against Canada, then play Singapore on April 28 and China on April 30 to complete the group stage. China is the most successful team in Uber Cup history, winning 15 titles.

From this, the top two teams from each group D will compete in the quarter finals. The knockout phase will begin on May 2 and the final will be held on May 5.

The Indian men’s team will be delegation by the world number one doubles team of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty and Indian World Championship medalists in singles – HS Prannoy, Lakshya Sen and Kidambi Srikanth.

Two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu, the country’s top women’s doubles pair, Ashwini Ponnappa-Tanisha Crasto and Commonwealth Games bronze medalists Gayatri Gopichand-Trisa Jolly will not play in the Uber Cup. India will instead field a young side, featuring 17-year-old national champions Anmol Kharb, Asmita Chaliha and Tanvi Sharma.
