The Indian pair reached the Thailand Open 2024 semi-finals

Top Indian doubles shuttlers continued their strong run at the Thailand Open 2024 on Friday, with men’s pair Satvik-Chirag and women’s doubles pair Ashwini-Tanisha advancing to the semi-finals after hard-fought victories.

In the men’s doubles event, top seeds Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty defeated Malaysia’s Junaidi Arif and Roy King Yap in straight games 21-7, 21-14 to reach the last four. The World No. #3 Indian duo was too good against the 64th ranked Malaysians in their quarter final match.

Rankireddy and Shetty overwhelmed their opponents from the start, leading 9-2 in the opening game. The Indians had no answer to the aggressive net play and brilliant stroke making of the Malaysians. The Indian pair took the first game 21-7 without breaking a sweat.

In the second game, Arif and Yap battled better early on, with the score tied at 5-5. But the Indian top seed raised their game again, going on a 10-3 run to lead 15-8. From there, they never looked back, finishing the game 21-14.

In women’s doubles, the 4th-seeded Indian pair of Ashwini Ponnappa and Tanisha Crasto vanquished 6th-seeded Lee Yu Lim and South Korea’s Shin Seung Chan in 3 games in 1 hour and 16 minutes.

Ponnappa and Crasto took the opening game 21-15. The Indians completed strongly to pocket the first game. In the second game, the Koreans fought back to tie the match going into the final period to lead 23–21.

The decider was an epic clash with physical injuries from both teams. Neither could make the decisive break until 19-19 as the Indians increased their level of pressure. Some exciting winners from Crasto gave them match point, which they converted to win 21-19.

However, it was the end of the road for Meraba Luwang Mysnam in the men’s singles quarter-finals as he lost 12-21, 5-21 to home favorite and world #8 Kunlavut Vitidsorn of Thailand. The 23-year-old Indian started brightly but was blown away by Vitidsorn’s aggression and shot-making ability. Earlier in the tournament, Maisnam had an upset win against fifth seed HS. the love

In the semi-finals on Saturday, Rankireddy and Shetty will face a tough test against Chinese Taipei’s Ming Che Lu and Tang Kai-wei, while Ponnappa and Krasto Jongkalphan will face the top-seeded Thai duo of Kititharakul and Ravinda Prazongzai.( Read more news)
