Malvika Bansod seeded women’s singles eighth and Kiran George third in men’s singles at Orleans Masters 2024 Badminton
Youngsters Malvika Bansod and Kiran George will lead the Indian challenge at the Orleans Masters 2024 badminton tournament in France starting on Tuesday.
Bansod, 22, won the Azerbaijan International last month and is seeded eighth in the women’s singles at the BWF Super 300 event. Malvika Bansod, 51st in the BWF Badminton World Ranking, will play Hungary’s Vivien Sandorhazy in the round of 32.
Upcoming women’s single shuttlers Imad Farooqui Samia, Tanya Hemant and Anupama Upadhyay are also on the entry list.
The Orleans Masters 2024 Badminton will be played at the Palais des Sports Arena. Live streaming and telecast available in India.
World No. 37 Kiran George, who reached the quarterfinals at the Indonesia Masters in January, will lead India in the men’s singles.
The 24-year-old George starts against third seed and compatriot Satish Kumar Karunakaran. 2022 World Junior Championship silver medalist S Subramanian and Mithun Manjunath, responsible for World Championship silver medalist Kidambi Srikanth at the Thailand Masters, are also competing.
Indian badminton player Priyanshu Rajawat won the men’s singles crown last year but will not compete in this year’s Orleans Masters.
Instead, world number 29 Rajawat will play in the All England Open BWF Super 1000 event this week to proclaim his ranking before the ability window for the Olympics closes next month.
The world No. 1 men’s doubles pair of Chirag Shetty-Satviksairaj Rankireddy will also not compete in Orleans. Will their absence , MR Arjun-Dhruv Kapila, seeded fifth, will be India’s top-rated pair.
Women’s doubles features Simran Singhi and Ritwika Thackeray, who started as the second seeds. B Sumit Reddy-N Sikki Reddy, unseeded, will compete in mixed doubles.
