ODI World Cup final; Dravid said he had no plans to continue as India’s head coach after the loss in the ODI World Cup final, but his captain’s call changed his mind.
Rahul Dravid took over as India’s head coach after his initial 2-year stint at the end of last year’s ODI World Cup and where the team finished runners-up to Australia. Then came the call from Rohit Sharma, and everything changed.

As a coach, apart from winning the T20 World Cup, Dravid was in charge when India reached the World Test Championship final in June 2023 and the ODI World Cup final in November 2023.
During his rise as a coach, Dravid said he did not believe in “redemption stories”. This was in response to the question of whether lifting the World Cup was particularly satisfying on the shores where India crashed out of the ODI World Cup under Dravid in the first round in 2007.
“I’m usually not at a loss for words but on a day like today, for me to be a part of it, I couldn’t be more grateful,” Dravid said. “Every one of you has shown me, my coaching staff, my support staff respect, kindness, effort.
“You all will remember these moments. We also always say, it’s not about the runs, it’s not about the wickets, you never remember your career but you remember these moments, so let’s really enjoy it.”

Dravid was fielded by the entire team during the victory celebrations led by Virat Kohli and Rohit. Dravid and the selectors were tasked with bringing the two senior players back into the T20 squad earlier this year despite being out of the format for a long time.

As they celebrated together, Dravid had a brief message for Kohli: “Three whites ticked. One red has to go.
