Niall Armstrong the latest player ; Scrum-half Neil Armstrong has become the latest Exeter Chiefs player to sign a contract extension at Sandy Park.

Niall Armstrong the latest player, The 24-year-old follows in the footsteps of Tommy Watt and Ben Hammersley, who both put pen to paper last week. Like Hammersley, Northern Irishman Armstrong is also a recruit from the University of Exeter.

Former Ulster academy product Gallagher made a late start to his debut campaign in the Premiership, despite a season plagued by injuries, mainly a dislocated shoulder in December. As a result, he has managed only eleven appearances so far.

He is currently fit and firing and came off the bench in Exeter’s recent 38-17 win over Gloucester in the Premiership.

“I loved my first season with the Chiefs,” Armstrong said after signing the new contract.

“ At the same time I got invaluable Premiership exposure so early in my career.

“I am delighted to continue my time here and I am very excited for what the future holds for us as a team. There is a real feeling that we are in the process of building something special.”

Exeter Director of Rugby Rob Baxter added: “We are delighted to have Neil as part of our team of young players. He has been a great addition to the squad, proving a valuable pathway for us through university.

“He’s another guy who’s had a relatively serious injury season but it’s great to have him fit and fighting and adding to our game for the rest of the season.”
