What young cricketer Jack Fraser-McGurk had to say about not getting a chance in the ICC T20 World Cup.

For anyone who attended the IPL game on Tuesday, it was hard to believe that Jack Fraser-McGurk was not the first choice for the IPL team.

Lungi Ngidi’s replacement in the tournament now holds the record for the most 20-ball half-centuries in the IPL.

He is only 22, holds the record for the fastest List A century with 29 balls and, contrary to popular expectations, is not part of Australia‘s T20 World Cup squad. But he has continued to improve against the white ball in the middle and some of that could be due to some advice from his DC coach Ricky Ponting.

“What he told me really stuck with me,” Jack Fraser-McGurk told the Willow Talk podcast. “[Ponting said] I hit the ball a lot more when I swing 80 percent instead of 100 percent.

You have just found the middle and it will go for six. I was like, ‘Okay that’s good’, because when I swing hard my head shakes.

I watched the footage of all the games I played, apart from the IPL, and he was right, pretty hard swing, my head was shaking when I hit the practice ball.

Who can pick up on the little things you wouldn’t notice…it blows my mind.

also said he was “not upset” at the World Cup non-selection, arguing that he didn’t think he had “earned it yet” and that his time would come.

“It didn’t bother me too much because I wasn’t in a position where I could have achieved that yet. World Cup cricket is very different to IPL cricket,” said Fraser-McGurck. Now to be here, there’s really no word for it. I really don’t understand how it happened so fast… but for it to happen so fast, it was awesome.

I can really see myself batting at five or six. No because we’ve got guys like Tim David, Cam Green in there, so I think it’s good, hopefully more time.

How is the IPL experience for him? “It’s like every game is an AFL grand final,” he said. “It’s huge, the atmosphere is crazy. I think everywhere you go it’s almost too loud and it doesn’t bother you. I think I’m more nervous playing a Shield game when there’s 200 people there than me. IPL Ahmedabad 75,000
