Indonesia Open 2024 : Lakshya Sen beats Kenta Nishimoto to reach QF of Indonesia Open 2024.

Lakshya Sen, the 2022 Commonwealth Games champion, reached the quarter-finals of the Indonesia Open 2024 with an easy win over world No. 12 Kenta Nishimoto (21-9, 21-15). Sen, who qualified for the Olympics thanks to his performances at the French Open and All-England Open, defeated Nishimoto, who was coming off a stunning win over Anthony Shinisuka Ginting.

Lasha started the opening game with four straight points and then took a comfortable five-point lead to lead 11-6 at the interval. He continued his momentum with a great offensive display, giving Nishimoto no chance to come back. He scored 10 of his 13 points in the second half of the opening game in a quick 21-9 run.

 

The second game was close at 8-8, but after that, Sen took three straight points to go ahead 11-8. He never looked back and closed out the second game 21-15. It was the target’s third win against Nishimoto in four meetings. He will now face Denmark’s (World No. 5) Anders Antonsen. Although Lakshya Sen has a 2-3 head-to-head record against Antonsen, he won their last meeting and will be hoping to repeat that success.

 

In the women’s doubles, Trisa Jolly/Gayatri Gopichand played their hearts out but went down to World No. 7 Mayu Matsumoto/Japan’s Wakana Nagahara (21-19, 19-21, 19-21). The Indians started the opening game positively, taking a quick 11-5 lead. They continued their momentum and had 5 game points at 20-15. The Japanese duo saved four game points, but the Indians secured the game at the fifth attempt to win 21-19.

 

After surviving a threaten in the opening game, the 2nd game was very close, with neither pair leading by more than 2 points. Trisa/Gayatri led throughout and looked set to upset the Japanese pair. However, Mayu/Wakana bounced back with four points in a row to go down 17-19, pushing the match to a decider.

 

In the decider, Trisa/Gayatri started positively, leading 8-5 early on, but could not sustain the momentum as the Japanese pair made quick strides. The Indians made a late comeback, saving a match point, but eventually lost.

 

In another women’s doubles match, Ashwini Ponnappa/Tanisha Castro lost to world No. 2 Baek Ha-na/Lee So-hee in 3 games (13-21, 21-19, 13-21). Ashwini was outstanding with her agility, while Tanisha made a few errors at crucial points. In mixed doubles, Sumit Reddy/Sikki Reddy lost in a one-sided (9-21, 11-21) to World No. 1 Zheng Si Weiof China. In the men’s singles category, Priyanshu Rajawat lost to world champion Kunlavut Vitidsorn (10-21, 17-21).
