Franchise cricket experience ,Veteran Namibian all-rounder David Wiese admitted that his experience playing in various T20 leagues around the world came in handy in a critical situation against Oman in their first T20 World Cup.
Namibia struggled against Oman and were on the brink of relegation before settling in the Super Over.Then in the super over, Weiss stepped up with both bat and ball as Namibia eventually put Oman away. I think it was a really tight game, a little tough for our liking.
Wiese admitted after the game.. Having played in a lot of franchise tournaments, I’ve been in these situations before and I feel what you’re saying and I Having played a few CPLs now, I think I understand a bit around the block.”
Wies said he was determined to make amends in the Super Over after failing to connect the last ball of the 20th over when Namibia needed two to win. “I was a bit disappointed and upset that I missed the last ball,” he said. “There was initial frustration. Then luckily, we wasted a single to go into the super over.
“And then from there, I think I was in the zone from there. I wanted to correct franchise cricket experience my mistakes. I wanted to go out there and be the big performance guy. And luckily, the team gave me the responsibility. In that role and I knew that batting super over, if I do one or two early but I can keep them under pressure and get them out of reach.
Wiese refused to blame the surface for the slow play and acknowledged that lessons should be learned from the win moving forward in the tournament. “I think you remember the days at Kensington which had a bit of bounce and pace and today when we got there it looked like a good pitch, it looked like a good wicket and we thought it was going to play all over. Time – but obviously it’s a bit Slow, it slowed down a bit and it wasn’t the easiest wicket to start on,” he observed.
When you’re in that position and the best teams in the world go tooth and nail, win with two overs to spare. I feel like we went into the last over and then things didn’t go to plan – but we got the two points at the end and we learned a lot and now we have to move on to the next game here.”

Meanwhile, Oman’s Zeeshan Maqsood noted that his team was not very confident after putting just 109 runs on the board but praised his bowlers for keeping things tight and pulling the contest to the end. “To be honest, we weren’t franchise cricket experience that confident, but we know we have the ability to fight, and we’ve won games by 130 runs before, we’ve defended that in 2019,” he franchise cricket experience recalled.
