After eight years, Silva will turn 30 in August. The intervening time has brought glory. He has lifted the Premier League trophy six times for Manchester City. Last year, he managed to add the Champions League to his list of great honours.

Silva is the one who weaves the game, who makes runs off the ball, fills in where he is needed. In a season that, again, was admired by others, he created the most chances from open play for City as they retained the Premier League title.
There’s a sense that he’s at his happiest out of the spotlight, as if that’s his natural habitat, despite his extraordinary gifts. But sometimes that’s impossible, like when he was the player of the tournament in Portugal’s 2019 Nations League success.
It hasn’t changed him as a person but perhaps it has changed how other people behave around him – and his extended family back in Portugal. “The more I win, the more people are talking to them, kids asking for a video or my shirt.”
Part of the thrill of watching Silva is that his own childish exuberance remains a part of him. Bernardo Silva interview-“On the street, at school with friends, I remember just enjoying having the ball around me. Bernardo Silva interview-Doing what I love, which is playing football. Pure joy.”
Has that changed? “It feels a little more like a job,” he admits. But there is a caveat. “And I still love my job. Bernardo Silva interview-It’s a dream come true.” And it has no plans to end anytime soon.
Before that there is a chance to claim the overdue European Championship with Portugal. The squad is strong and Martinez has started well. “We are enjoying the time with him. The results have been really good. But now comes the big challenge.”
And if the pressure is on, and Portugal need a penalty shootout to progress, maybe win it? “I’ll take it. Hopefully, I’ll score. But I’ll take it, knowing it’s a big responsibility. I’ll definitely take it.” What the team needs.
