BCCI secretary Jay Shah , also mentioned that Mohammed Shami is expected to return only in September, while KL Rahul is still awaiting clearance to join LSG. BCCI secretary Jay Shah said Rishabh Pant, who is set to make his much-awaited IPL comeback, will play the T20 World Cup after that “if he can keep [wickets]”. Pant has been out of action since a fearful car accident in December 2022.
“He is batting well, he is fielding well. We will declare him fit very fast ,” BCCI secretary Jay Shah told PTI. “If he can play the T20 World Cup for us, it will be a huge thing for us. BCCI secretary Jay Shah is a big asset for us. If he can keep it up, then he can play the World Cup. Let’s see how he does. IPL.”
The accident resulted in a severe injury to Pant’s right knee that required ligament reconstruction surgery in addition to a broken wrist and ankle.

Ricky Ponting, head coach of his IPL franchise Delhi Capitals, has already said that he will participate in the league. Last month, Capitals co-owner Parth Jindal told ESPN Cricinfo that Pant had “started his wicketkeeping”. Jindal also said that Pant “could be perfectly fit for the IPL” and that he expected Pant to “lead from match one”. India pacer Mohammed Shami, who is get well from ankle surgery, is expected to make his return in the home Test series against Bangladesh later this year, Shah said. Shami underwent surgery on his Achilles tendon in London in February.
Shami missed the five-match Test series against England and will also be ruled out of the IPL. Joy last played for India in the 2023 ODI World Cup, where he was a standout performer. India will host Bangladesh for two Tests and three T20 matches in September.
KL Rahul needed an injection, has started rehab and is in NCA.”
After undergoing treatment in London, he is expected to turn up for Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL. However, it is understood that Rahul is still awaiting clearance to join the super giant.
