BCCI allows Rishabh Pant to play as wicketkeeper: BCCI’s fitness and medical team has cleared Rishabh Pant to keep wickets for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2024. However, both fast bowlers Mohammad Shami and Prasidh Krishna have been ruled out of the tournament.

But there is no update on Lucknow Super Giants captain-designate KL Rahul. He has not played since the first Test against England in January due to a quadriceps tendon injury.

The BCCI also said Prasidh, who underwent surgery on his  proximal quadriceps tendon on February 23, is set to begin his recovery at the National Cricket Academy . The update on Pant came after BCCI secretary Jai Shah told the media that Pant was “batting well and fielding well” and could be in claim for a place .

“If he can play the T20 World Cup for us that will be a huge thing for us. He is a  asset for us,” Shah said. “If he can keep it up, he can play in the World Cup..”

Pant, who last played senior cricket in December 2022, He suffered a serious right knee injury that required a ligament revision surgery, as well as a smashed wrist and ankle in a car accident. Shami’s complete unavailability will come as a big blow for Gujarat Titans, who will be led by Shubman Gill after Hardik Pandya returns to Mumbai Indians. In the 2023 IPL, Shami took 28 wickets and won the Purple Cap for the Titans as they finished runners-up to Chennai Super Kings.

In January 2024, Shami said he was aiming to return for the Test series against England, but was later ruled out of the entire Test series as well as the IPL after undergoing ankle surgery in February. He is unlikely to be fit for the T20 World Cup as well.

For Rajasthan Royals, this will be the second season without Prasidh. In 2023 he was also ruled out due to injury.
