US Open 2024 Badminton Tournament Today: Trisa Jolly-Gayatri Gopichand advance to quarterfinals

The Indian duo of Trisa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand advanced to the quarterfinals of the women’s doubles event at the US Open 2024 badminton tournament in Texas, USA on Thursday.

 

Trisa-Gayatri, ranked 23rd in Badminton Tournament Today, defeated world number 83 Shih Pei Shan and Chinese Taipei’s Hung En-Tzu 21-16, 11-21, 19-21 at the Fort Worth Convention Center.

 

Seeded second at the US Open, the Indian duo took 54 minutes to defeat their opponents in the round of 16 competition. They will face world number 35 Rui Hirokami and Japan’s Yuna Kato in the quarterfinals.

Priyanshu Rajawat also advanced to the quarter-finals of the men’s singles event after a straight games success against Chinese Taipei’s Huang Yu Kai.

The 22-year-old Indian badminton player, ranked world number 40, vanquished his world number 82 adversary 21-18, 21-16 in 35 minutes to reach the last 8. Priyanshu will face world number 34 Lei Lan Xi of People’s Republic of China in the quarterfinals.

Meanwhile, India’s Malvika Bansod defeated Czech’s Tereza Svabikova 21-15, 19-21, 14-21 in the second round. World number 49 Malvika took 58 minutes to defeat her world number 65 opponent in a three-game thriller to reach the quarter-finals.

Seeded seventh here, she will play two-time Commonwealth Games medalist Kirsty Gilmour of Scotland for a place in the semi-finals.

In the men’s doubles event, however, the sixth-seeded pair of Krishna Prasad Garaga and K Sai Prateek lost in the second round to Chen Zhi Ye and Presley Smith of the United States 17-21, 21-19, 19-21.
