Badminton Asia Championship Tournament 2024: Live streaming, TV channel, where and how to watch

The Badminton Asia Championship tournament 2024 is set to begin on April 9 in Ningbo, China, with the world’s top players converging to secure their Olympic spots ahead of the deadline.

Celebrating its 41st version, this badminton tournament is sanctioned by Badminton Asia. Last year’s championships unfolded at Dubai’s Sheikh Rashid Bin Hamdan Indoor Hall, with Indonesia’s Anthony Sinisuka Ginting claiming the men’s singles title and Taiwan’s Tai Ju-ying winning the women’s singles. Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty also won gold for India in men’s doubles.

However, the men’s doubles pair withdrew from the tournament. Satvik’s shoulder injury, which he sustained last week, forced the duo to withdraw from the championship.

In their absence, the Indian team will be led by H.S. Prannoy, Lakshya Sen, Srikanth Kidambi

H.S. Prannoy will face China’s Lu Guangzhou in the first round, while Kidambi faces a tough draw with a first round clash against second seed Anthony Ginting. As for the women’s singles, P.V. Sindhu did not make a happy return to the court after the injury.

PV Sindhu and company face a tough challenge in the BAC medal hunt

Badminton Asia Championship Tournament 2024

Star Indian shuttlers including PV Sindhu will face a tough test against the world’s best as they begin their quest for a medal at the Badminton Asia Championships, which begins with the qualifiers in Ningbo (China) on Tuesday.

The last-minute withdrawal of world number one pair and defending champions Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty may have taken some of the shine off but it will put the onus on the singles stars during the continental individual championships.

It is the last major event to award Olympic qualification ranking points which adds another layer to the competition, which will see some high-octane battles between the top shuttlers this week.

Sindhu, a two-time Olympic medallist, showed signs of regaining her old touch as she dragged Tokyo Games gold medalist Chen Yufei to three games in the quarters of the French Open.

Sindhu is still a work in progress and will get another chance to test her game this week in a field that also features women’s top seed An Seong, Olympic champion Chen Yufei, Tai Ju-ying, Akane Yamaguchi and He Bingjia.

However, the former world champion will concentration on his first round clash against world number 33 Goh Jin Wei of Malaysia.

Sindhu has a 4-1 record against Malaysia and a favorable result could see her face sixth seed Han Yu of China, whom the Indian recently defeated for the fifth time at the Badminton Asia Team Championship in February.
