Lakshad Sen’s path to the All England semi-finals

After losing the first game 20–22 in the quarterfinals, Lasha won the second game 21–16 and claimed the third game 21–19 to end the 71-minute contest. The Malaysian demand the first game 22-20 after 23 minutes of fast-motion badminton. The Indian held a mid-game lead in both games against Malaysia’s Lee.

Lasha was 2-8 down against world No. 4 Anders Antonsen in the final third game in Birmingham on Thursday, before overcoming the Danish fourth seed 20-22, 21-13, 21-11 in a 78-minute thriller. The 21-year-old is aiming to win men’s singles gold at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham but is looking for form after nose surgery disrupted his progress towards the end of 2022.

All other Indians in the field on Thursday lost, leaving the only Indian target on Friday. Satheksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty crashed out of winning the French Open title last week, as did PV Sindhu, who was beaten by South Korea’s Ahn Se Young.

Sen from the rear guard! It’s a clever play or leave it. The next return holds the pressure. But the 18-7 Sen can afford some slick defense.

Quick-Sen turn. It’s quite gobsmacking how he nicks his way. Mostly it’s getting harder and harder at the net and making dollys from mid court. 15-4

All England Open Badminton Semi-Final Live Score: What a turnaround

Here is different Laksh Sen! In the second game he raced from 4-3 to 17-4!

To give an example of how good he is here in the second installment, there was a point when he lifted the shuttle into a comfort zone for Christy. The Indonesians rise up and thunder into the target’s body. The Indian sent it back silently with a lazy flick of his wrist!

Not very audible, coaching input. But Prakash Padukone could be heard telling Laksha to “play further down”, with the Indian now leading 11-3. Without a fall, it should be taken to a decision maker
