Two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu reached the second round of the All England Open 2024 Badminton tournament after her opponent Yvonne Lee retired with an injury at Birmingham’s Utilita Arena on Tuesday.

Indian badminton player PV Sindhu, ranked 11th in the world, won the first game 21–10 against the German player, Li, ranked 28th in the world. Lee lost the first game and decided to retire from the match. Sindhu, who reached the quarterfinals of the French Open last week, dominated the match and looked very comfortable against her opponent.
Sindhu is set to face current world number one, Ahn Se-young of Korea Republic in the second round. This match will prove to be a difficult challenge for Sindhu as she has lost all her last six matches against the Koreans in international badminton. Sindhu was the only one to win a match against Se-Young at the Asia Championship in Dubai last year.
Tanisha Krasto and Ashwini Ponnappa will also be in action against China’s Y Zheng and SX Zhang in the second round of the women’s doubles today.
Top seeds in men’s doubles, Satviksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty are set to take on Muhammad Shohibul Fikri and Bagas Maulana. The world number 1 vanquished their Indonesian counterparts Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan in the first round and will now face the world number 9. In the second roundnLaksha Sen will face Anders Antonsen in the men’s singles .
