USA bowled brilliantly in the death overs and Ali Khan picked up three of his wickets in that period, while Sourav Netrawalkar took one in the 19th over.

It is a cricket disaster for Bangladesh.

They could not chase 145 runs from the beginning. They lost two wickets in the powerplay before the rush of wickets, with captain Nazmul Hossain Shanto and Touhid Hrido putting on a 48-run stand. Shakib Al Hasan tried to take them home but was removed by Ali Khan in the 18th over to bring USA back into the game.

After opting to bowl first, Rishad Hossain led Bangladesh’s efficient bowling effort. He took 2 for 21, his best and most economical spell in T20Is, with Mustafizur Rahman and Shariful Islam also taking two each. USA captain Monak Patel top-scored with 42 and his deputy Aaron Jones 35, but the home side could not take advantage of a decent powerplay.

Tanjid, however, threw away his good start when he was bowled while pulling a delivery from Jesse Singh that was not low enough for a shot.

After that, Shanta and Hridoy, who made fifty in the first match, added 48 runs for the third wicket. Hridiya and Shanto hit Harmeet for a six each in the tenth over, both hitting the ball relatively straight.

But in the 11th over, composure and heart mixed and stuck in the middle of a quiet pitch. Corey Anderson then bowled Hriday for 25 off 21 balls in the 13th over, with Shadley van Schalkwyk doing the same to Mahmudullah in the 15th over.

Shakib survived a runout attempt early in the 16th over when the point fielder failed to hit the stumps even as Shakib struggled to reach the striker’s edge. After the over he removed Jesse for two superb boundaries, first through point and then tickled the third ball.

Bangladesh’s joy, however, was short-lived. Shakib’s next ball, Zakir Ali fell to van Shakwick. Just one ball later, Tanzim trapped Hasan lbw for a zero, to put the USA well and truly on top.

But the USA lost two big wickets shortly after the end of the powerplay. Rishad ran towards Taylor and hit Tanjid Hasan on the neck. He scored 31 runs off 28 balls with two sixes and three fours. Monk and Jones added 60 runs for the third wicket but they batted at just 6.42 runs per over. Jones was much more fluent than in the previous game, though, hitting Rishad for a six over long on, but the big hits were generally few and far between.

Bangladesh got their reward in the last four overs keeping Jones and Manook under ten overs. Mustafizur removed Jones with a long-on catch for 35 runs off 34 balls. Both Anderson and Monk were bowled by Shariful in the 19th over. Harmeet scored zero runs after Mustafizur. But as it turned out, the United States had enough on board.
