2025 European Badminton Championships

Denmark is set to welcome Europe’s top badminton talent for the 2025 European Badminton Championships, which will be held in Horsen.

It marks the first time since 2017 that Denmark, a country renowned as a powerhouse in our sport, will host the individual 2025 European Badminton Championships . The event returns to Denmark where the 2019 European Mixed Team Championships in Copenhagen and previous editions in 1996 and 2008 in Herning were also successfully organised.

The championships will be held at the Sports and Events Arena Forum Horsens.

Forum Horsens has been confirmed as the venue for these prestigious events following the recent meeting of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) in China. Horsens, a city known for its large-scale concerts and cultural festivals in the past, is all set to host these badminton championships for the first time. The selection brings the elite badminton competition to the Danish region, where the best players from Europe and around the world will compete for gold, silver and bronze medals. Badminton Europe president Sven Sere is delighted that the tournament will be played in his home country.

“We are pleased to award Denmark the hosting rights for the Individual 2025 European Badminton Championships. Denmark is a leading badminton country with a passionate fan base, and we expect great support from the visitors.

“With Denmark’s strong experience in hosting major championships, as we have seen at the 2023 World Championships in Copenhagen, we are confident that this will be a very successful event.”

2025 European Badminton Championships

The Thomas & Uber Cup, only the fourth occasion in its 75-year history to be held in Europe, will follow separate European Championships. Denmark was last awarded the event in 2020 but was postponed to 2021 due to COVID-19.

Kristian Piehl, chairman of Badminton Denmark, is equally optimistic about the event’s prospects, noting, “It’s great to have a European Championship on home soil in 2025. This fits in with our long-term ambition to bring more badminton championships to Denmark. . A few weeks ago, Denmark did well at the European Championship in Germany and of course, we hope to have an even better European Championship at home next year.”

Horsens Municipality is also excited about the upcoming event and is eagerly anticipating welcoming fans, coaches and players from all over Europe to the city in 2025.

“We are thrilled to be offering two championships with the European Championships next year and the bigger events of the Thomas and Uber Cups in 2026,” said Kristian Piehl, president of Badminton Denmark.

“These events align perfectly with our long-term goals to bring more badminton championships to Denmark. After hosting the World Championships in Copenhagen last summer and our annual Denmark Open in Odense, it’s great to showcase Horsens as the host city.”

Interestingly, Denmark hosted the European Championships in 1996 and 2008, while the most recent edition took place in 2017 in Kolding. The nation is yet to secure a win in the Uber Cup but won the Thomas Cup title in 2016.

The 2025 European Badminton Championships will be played in week 15 (April 7-13) but the exact dates are yet to be agreed . Tickets for the 2025 European Badminton Championships will go on sale in week 42 of this year, coinciding with the Denmark Open.
